The Reiki Principles

The Principles of Reiki are comparable to affirmations or intentions, and they’re very much about being focused on the present, speaking to the importance of one day at a time. They encourage you to embody your life force energy, your Ki and begin to live from that place as your true self, drawing from your inner wisdom, with the support of the Rei or universal energy.

The Reiki Principles have evolved over time, to reflect the needs of the time and are a powerful base from which to build a personal foundation. Based in love and respect, they promote the grounding and anchoring of your energy in a positive and all-encompassing way, fulfilling inner and outer needs.

There’s no right or wrong way to incorporate these principles into your life. They can be used as a morning intention, during meditation, whenever you need them. When dealing with life’s challenges, both big and small, it is often difficult to stay grounded and centered in yourself when they present themselves, particularly if you are stressed, overworked, skipped a meal, missed out on some self care or are running on empty. Inevitably, that’s when a challenging moment arrives.

The principles help to bring you and your Ki, back to yourself, into balance, through a concrete/practical choice and the Rei, the universal energy, supports what you need in that moment. The more you come back to yourself through presence, in that moment, using these principles, combined with the teaching and Attunement offered, the more your inner strength and connection can begin to grow and become stronger.

Beginning each Principle “In this Moment”, retains the power of the principle focused in the present, which is where all energy is cultivated. It not only rejuvenates you, but it rejuvenates others. It will make a huge difference within you, your wellbeing and your experiences in life. They are,

I choose to value myself.

The importance and affects of valuing oneself cannot be understated. Valuing, respecting yourself, your feelings, your interests and your preferences, is to strive to live your life congruent to your authentic, true nature.

I choose not to worry.

If you’re a worrier, this Reiki Principle will help ground you when you start considering the future, which is where anxiety is provoked. Taking a moment to pause, to take a deep breath helps to reset.

I give thanks for my many blessings.

Living within a state of gratefulness is essential to providing an environment that nurtures and attracts inner and outer abundance. Being thankful for what you have is a powerful step to creating and attracting more of the same.

I choose love.

Love simply cultivates a more positive energy flow within you, your relationships and throughout all of the connections you make during your day with people.

I choose not to respond in anger.

This does not mean that you consistently suppress anger at yourself, another person or situation. It is just not possible nor reasonable to do that. It’s is about balance. Taking a moment to take stock, cool down and take as much time as you need to decide how to respond, taking into consideration what belongs to you and what they are responsible for.
